The Research Unit PIMM gathers since January 2009 the strengths and expertises from three different laboratories:
- the Laboratory of Engineering Materials of Arts et Métiers ParisTech (LIM - UMR CNRS 8006)
- the Laboratory of Mechanical Systems and Processes of Arts et Métiers ParisTech (LMSP – UMR CNRS 8106)
- The Laboratory for Application of high Power Lasers of CNRS (LALP – UPR 1578)
The advantage of such a combination was first scientific, an interactive link between materials, structures and processes which is a major scientific trend in solid mechanics at the international level. The additional originality attempts to take processes as a engine axis.
The Polymer Part of P2AM team (EA4626) of CNAM joined us in September 2011 with all of their research equipment. The P2AM researchers provide research skills in biobased materials and extrusion processes. Then, research activities around processes, microstructure and properties of polymers were restructured in the new research group Arpe. In November 2012, the whole P2AM team merges with PIMM, Metallurgy part of P2AM team and Behavoir of Metals research group merged and formed the new research group CoMet. Thus PIMM now is depending on three institutions: Arts and MétiersParisTech, CNRS and CNAM.
